Cohosts and founders of the Cleveland Teaching Collaborative, Dr. Molly Buckley-Marudas and Dr. Shelley Rose, sit down to talk makerspaces with Tina Kovach, Anna Delia, Nick DiGiorgio, and Kara Gehring – a group of educators who have helped make makerspaces a priority in the classrooms of Northeast Ohio. With our guests, we’ll explore what a makerspace is, how our guests got started with makerspaces, stories of students engaging with the spaces, and what it takes to run a makerspace. We’ll also have our first edition of the lightning round question segment, Chalk n’ Roll! We hope that by the end of the conversation, you Chalk-Talkers will be as excited about makerspaces as we are!

Tina Kovach

Computer Science Teacher at Tremont Montessori

Tina Kovach is an urban educator with 34 years of teaching experience in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and she is determined to close the digital divide. She is passionate about STEM, Makerspaces, student-centered learning, equity, and access.

Anna Delia

K-12 Science Teacher and Founding Director of the Goldberg Innovation Lab for PS-8 students at Hawken School

Anna Delia is a science educator and innovator at Hawken School who is deeply committed to crafting new learning experiences for students. She is particularly engaged in the maker movement and has worked with Hawken to found a state-of -the-art, on-site makerspace.

Nick DiGiorgio

K-12 STEM Educator and Director of Makerspaces and Media Lab at Hawken School

Nick DiGiorgio is a STEM Educator and makerspace director at Hawken School who has helped develop learning environments in Northeast Ohio. He also acts as a consultant for implementing FabLab and makerspace programs in other schools.

Kara Gehring

PS-8 Educator & Director of the Innovation Lab at Hawken School

Kara Gehring is a leader and educator at Hawken School and is director of one of Hawken’s makerspaces. She is focused on student-centered and STEAM learning in grades PS-8, and helps other educators evolve their curriculums.
